"Seize the Day" MedTV at PMAANZ Conference

6 - 8 September, 2007 hosted in Nelson at the historic Rutherford Hotel.

The conference cry "Seize the Day" inspired MedTV to take up this challenge and I found just being at conference was a great opportunity to mix and mingle with old friends and new and at the same time make more new friends.

Having met all of our clients during a normal working day and in their workplace, usually under pressure, it was refreshing to recognise each other outside those usual settings.

Inspiration in the waiting room
3 August 2007: NZ Herald, The Business, Success Profile by reporter, Christine Nikiel: Gabriella Larkin knows all too well the tedium of a doctor's waiting room. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 1995, she made regular doctors visits for five years before being given the all-clear. But staring at old posters and last year's magazines sparked an idea for a business that was just waiting to happen.

30th April 2007: Gabriella Larkin congratulates John Marsden, General Manager of Te Puna Hauora Health Centre in Northcote on Auckland's North Shore, on being the first of many primary care waiting rooms to present the Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) MedTV service to its patients and visitors. The pioneering narrowcast waiting room network is now leading the way with its ground-breaking use of digital signage technology. The system is installed at no cost to the clinic and is funded by sponsorship and approved advertising.

Patient comes up with clever waiting room business
October 2003: Health entrepreneur Gabriella Larkin has turned her experience of the waiting room into a business, disseminating health information to patients while they wait to see their doctor.
The waiting is over... Ex-cancer patient develops health education programme
March/April 2003: Medical waiting rooms are often a location for high levels of “downtime” –patients and support visitors can spend long stretches with little to occupy their interest. MedTV is about to change that.
Evaluation confirms MedTV's potential as an effective health communication programme (July 2002)
The Ministry of Health's funded formal evaluation of the MedTV service "confirmed it's potential" as an effective means of health education communications. Report recommends that MedTV is "worthy of pursuit" and "appealing to a wide audience range".
